FBI seeks info for assault on Navajo Nation member near Four Corners

PHOENIX — The FBI is seeking the public’s help in identifying suspects who assaulted a man before stealing the his truck and fleeing near the Four Corners Monument in April.

The incident occurred around midnight on April 29 near the entrance gate of Weeminuche Construction Authority, a gravel pit operated by the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, authorities said.

The victim, a member of the Navajo Nation, suffered numerous injuries including bleeding inside the head and facial lacerations, officials said.

The suspects are believed to have fled toward the intersection of US 160 and US 64 in Teec Nos Pos, Arizona.

“We have seen too much violence in our communities in the Four Corners area,” Denver FBI Special Agent in Charge Michael Schneider said in a press release.

“The FBI is responsible for investigating the most serious crimes in Indian Country and we, along with our law enforcement partners, will continue to aggressively pursue these cases. We ask anyone with information about this violent attack on a community member to contact us.”

The stolen vehicle is a white 2015 Chevrolet Colorado crew cab short bed truck with Arizona license plate of “CAF1572.”

The truck has a cracked windshield, black marks on the front fender near the driver’s side and an “Aztec Strong” sticker in the back window. The victim’s cell phone and wallet were in the truck, and his work tools were in the truck bed, authorities said.
