Tempe Marketplace to hold chalk festival, world culture celebration

PHOENIX — People can experience different cultures from around the world right here in the Valley on Saturday with the World of Chalk Art Festival at Tempe Marketplace.

Along with live chalk murals, local community groups will perform tributes to a variety of cultures at The District Street stage from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to a press release.

Performances include a Chinese Lion dance, Mariachi music, American hip-hop dances, Japanese Taiko drumming, Mexican folklore dances as well as Native American songs, dances and stories. The full schedule can be viewed online.

A create-your-own chalkboard craft for kids is also available during the event, according to the release.

Adults can enjoy an alcoholic beverage at an outdoor bar run by Dave & Buster’s next to the stage.

Discounts are also available from a handful of Tempe Marketplace shops and restaurants all weekend long.
