Gov. Ducey announces nearly $27M to support K-12 students in Arizona

PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced Thursday $26.5 million of funding to reach struggling students, support summer learning programs and expand tutoring opportunities.

“Our teachers, students and families have worked hard to stay on track and ensure Arizona kids have all the support they need,” Ducey said in a press release.

“We need to keep up this momentum. That’s why we’re providing additional dollars to avoid the summer slide, maintain student engagement, provide tutoring, enhance educators’ professional development and collect data on student outcomes.”

The new spending initiative aims to advance summer learning opportunities and prepare students for the next school year.

Project Momentum will get most of the funding at $17.5 million, while Boys and Girls Clubs will receive $5 million.

Other programs that will get funding include Graduation Alliance, Center for the Future of Arizona, Teach for America, Jobs for Arizona Graduates and FosterED Data Collection and Review.

Funding distributed by the state comes from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Funding, part of the CARES Act.
