PHOENIX –Two bighorn lambs are the most recent animals to join the Phoenix Zoo family.

The first male lamb was born on March 30 to mother Mija and the other male lamb was born April 9 to mother Athena.

Both of the lambs share the same father, Captain Jack Sparrow, a wild ram caught from southern Arizona who was later brought to the Phoenix Zoo.

Zoo visitors can see the active bighorn lambs alongside their mothers in their habitat along the Desert Lives Trail.

The Desert Lives Trail is home to the Bighorn Buttes, one of the largest natural habitats in the country for desert bighorns.

The latest bighorn lambs bring in new genetics to the managed care population for the desert bighorn habitat.

In addition to the bighorn lambs, the Phoenix Zoo has also recently brought in two callimico monkeys.

Lilly, a 10-year-old female, and Vermouth, an almost 10-year-old male, came to the Phoenix Zoo a month ago and have been staying at the the zoo’s Animal Care Center off exhibit.

The two monkeys arrived separately to the zoo. Lilly came from the Fresno chaffe Zoo in California and Vermouth came from the St. Augustine Alligator Farm in Florida.

We want to hear from you.
