ADOT reopens White Mountains highways after winter closure

PHOENIX — Three White Mountains-area state highways that were closed during the winter months reopened Thursday as temperatures begin to rise, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced.
State Route 261 that runs from State Route 260 near Eagar to Big Lake and State Route 273 that goes from SR 260 to Sunrise Park and Big Lake have reopened, along with State Route 473 that runs south from SR 260 on the White Mountain Apache Reservation to Hawley Lake.
State Route 366, which leads up Mount Graham near Safford, also reopened but drivers should expect delays on the highway as a repair project continues.
State Route 67, leading to the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, remains closed but is scheduled to reopen with park facilities in mid-May.
ADOT closes the state routes every winter due to the significant snowfall these areas typically receive, with the closures for the recently passed winter season starting in mid-November.
