Fire forces evacuations from Walmart in Glendale; no injuries reported

PHOENIX – A fire forced evacuation of an occupied Walmart in Glendale on Tuesday but no one was injured, authorities said.

Glendale Fire Department Capt. Ashley Losch said people inside the store near 83rd Avenue and Union Hills Drive were already filing out when her crews arrived.

Firefighters opened a door to the bicycle and paint area to find heavy smoke and flames that reached the ceiling.

Two racks of items were burning, but sprinklers were already engaged. Firefighters put out the rest of the blaze.

The store will be closed for an undetermined length of time.
