Top 20 all-time TV moments

What are some of the most indelible television images from the past 50 years?

According to a survey conducted by Nielsen and Sony Electronics, viewers ranked the top 20 TV moments of all-time. These results were based on a questionnaire relating to events the American public had watched over the years.

Not surprisingly, the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City take top billing. The attacks are far and away the most iconic image in recent history.

The devastating wrath of Hurricane Katrina, the highly-publicized O.J. Simpson murder verdict, the Challenger space shuttle explosion over Cape Canaveral and the death of Osama bin Laden round out the top 5.

Other moments etched in the minds of viewers include the Columbine school shooting of 1999, the funeral of Princess Diana and John F. Kennedy, The tragic saga of Michael Jackson’s passing, among others.

These profound moments and often haunting images have changed the course of our nation’s history and still have people talking.
