PHOENIX – A restaurant owner in eastern Arizona was charged for allegedly committing fraudulent tax schemes, according to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office on Tuesday.

A grand jury issued a 17 count indictment against Jackie Marie Norton in October for allegedly committing fraudulent schemes, failure to file transaction privilege tax returns and forgery for collecting taxes and payroll taxes and failing to submit them to the department of revenue.

Norton owns and operates PJ’s Café in Clifton, Ariz where an employee contacted the Department of Revenue to inquire about their tax refund.

The department learned Norton had provided federal W-2s that reflected taxes that were withheld from employees checks but never filed.

The department found PJ’s Cafe was charging and collecting taxes from customers and employees, but Norton allegedly kept all of the money instead of paying the Department of Revenue.

The investigation alleges that between March of 2012 to December of 2018, PJ’s made more than $2 million in taxable sales and Norton failed to remit $181,922 in taxes.
