PHOENIX — An armed robbery suspect was in custody after a shooting involving Phoenix police Thursday, authorities said.

No one was injured.

Police said in an email Friday that Lorenzo M. Gonzales, 22, is accused of robbing a convenience store near Central Avenue and Buckeye Road. He was booked on four counts of armed robbery and aggravated assault on an officer.

He was found at a home a couple of miles away around 11:30 a.m., about four hours after the robbery was reported.

When police approached the house, they said Gonzales barricaded himself inside and that he pointed a gun at officers. Police fired, driving Gonzalez back into the house, according to the email.

He was eventually subdued by “less lethal munitions,” Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said in the email.

It was the 17th shooting of the year involving Phoenix police, according to KTAR News research.
