PHOENIX – The Phoenix City Council unanimously voted Wednesday to reopen all of the city’s parks and outdoor amenities after being closed to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

The city started to reopen all park amenities on Thursday.

“Dr. Anthony Fauci says that one of the best things you can do is to spend time outside, so we encourage people to enjoy the parks and playgrounds,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday.

The city’s mountain parks, trails and golf courses have remained open throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

The new order opens the majority of other amenities that include high-touch surfaces like playgrounds.

At this time, indoor recreation facilities remain closed and large gatherings are still prohibited.

The city advises people to enjoy the parks but to do so safely by wearing a mask, practicing social distancing and bringing wipes and hand sanitizer.
