PHOENIX – Arizona authorities canceled a Silver Alert on Thursday after a Sun City man who’d been reported missing was located 1,700 miles away.

Stephen Sandburg, 88, was turned over to his son after being found safe in Stillwater, Minnesota, according to a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

The Silver Alert was issued Tuesday after his son, who lives in Minnesota, reported him missing.

Sandburg was supposed to meet a potential home buyer Monday morning, but the person showed up to find the front door open and no one home.

When Sandburg hadn’t returned by evening, a neighbor called in a welfare check.

Sandburg is 5-foot-8 and weighs 170 pounds. He has gray hair and blue eyes. He may have been driving his 2014 white Cadillac SRX, Arizona license plate AGZ5774.

His phone didn’t show any activity in the past week and the car’s GPS was disabled.

Anyone with information should call the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department at 602-876-8477.

We want to hear from you.
