Phoenix firefighters extinguish blaze at assisted living facility

The Phoenix Fire Department was able to help 27 residents to safety while crews extinguished a multi-unit blaze at an assisted living facility.

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Fire Department extinguished a blaze Thursday morning at an assisted living facility in Gilbert.

Crews arrived at a facility near Guadalupe Road and Val Vista Drive to find a multi-unit fire, Phoenix Fire said.

Firefighters helped evacuate all 27 residents while crews established handlines to attack the fire.

Three of the units at the facility suffered fire damage and six residents were temporarily displaced.

One resident was treated for minor smoke inhalation but refused to go to the hospital.

A fire crisis team stayed on scene after the blaze was extinguished to help residents contact family members and assist the facility with any additional needs.

No firefighters were injured in the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
