Grand Canyon to partially resume bus service shuttered by coronavirus

PHOENIX — Bus service at Grand Canyon National Park is set to resume next weekend after being shuttered for more than five months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Partial shuttle service will resume Sept. 5 for the Hermit Road Route and eastbound Kaibab Rim Route from 5 a.m. until one hour after sunset each day, according to the National Park Service.

The Village Route, Kaibab Rim Route westbound and the Tusayan Route will not operate when service resumes.

COVID-19 prevention modifications have also been installed on the buses.

Capacity will be limited to 15 passengers, riders must wear face coverings and staff will go through screening protocols prior to every shift.

NPS said all physical distancing guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will also be enforced.

The free service has been offered at the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park for more than 40 years but was temporarily halted in mid-March because of the pandemic.
