Boy, 14, charged with attempted murder for Scottsdale shooting

PHOENIX – A teenage boy was booked on an attempted murder charge and two other minors were arrested for a shooting incident in Scottsdale on Monday evening, authorities said.

Nobody was injured during the incident near Hayden Road between Camelback and Indian school roads, which was called in around 6:30 p.m., police said.

Investigators determined that a verbal altercation between a group of juvenile males and two adults preceded the shooting.

A 14-year-old allegedly threatened the adults and fired two rounds from a handgun, one of which struck an unoccupied parked car, before the boys fled on foot, police said.

Four boys were detained after the incident, and the weapon was recovered, police said.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, the boy accused of firing the gun faces a criminal damage charge. One 15-year-old was charged with disorderly conduct with a weapon, and another 15-year-old was charged with disorderly conduct.

The fourth suspect wasn’t charged and was released to a parent, police said.

Police are not releasing the names of the suspects because they are minors.

No other information was immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing.
