Phoenix couple, neighbor escape their burning homes without injury

PHOENIX – A fire burned through one home in Phoenix and threatened another early Monday but no one was injured, first responders said.

An elderly couple and their dog were able to escape their burning home near 29th Avenue and Bethany Home Road, Capt. Rob McDade with the fire department said.

A next-door neighbor also managed to get out of his or her house without harm.

The blaze began at the unidentified couple’s home, McDade said in an email.

Firefighters arrived around 4 a.m. to find one home in flames and spreading directly west.

McDade said heavy smoke poured from the couple’s home.

Cause of the fire was under investigation.

No other details were available.
