YCSO: Woman facing multiple charges after shooting BB gun at trooper

PHOENIX — A 61-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after she shot a Department of Public Safety trooper with a BB gun Monday night.

The incident took place just before 6 p.m. in Black Canyon City. Delayed by priority calls, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office asked for assistance from DPS in response to a domestic violence call in the area.

According to police, the call centered around a drunk woman who attempted to shoot another woman in the household with a BB gun.

While responding to the incident, the woman shot at one of the officers, hitting the trooper in the chest. The woman was tased soon after and taken into custody. The trooper was not injured.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital as a precaution due to her intoxication.

She faces criminal charges involving domestic violence and aggravated assault.

More details on the arrest and charges are expected Tuesday, according to YCSO Public Affairs Coordinator Dwight D’Evelyn.
