Arizona cities to ring in 2020 with unique boot, pine cone, card drops

The boot drop will be at the city’s Historic Whiskey Row. The boot will be slowly lowered from a flagpole on top of the Palace Building.

It will drop twice — once at 10 p.m. and once at midnight — with fireworks set off both times.

Meanwhile, north of Prescott, the city of Flagstaff will drop a unique item of its own from the historic Weatherford Hotel in downtown: a pine cone.

Like its boot counterpart, the pine cone will also be lowered at 10 p.m. and midnight.

In eastern Arizona, an illuminated two of clubs playing card will be dropped in honor of Show Low’s history, in which two ranchers settled a land dispute with a poker game.

The celebration begins in front of the city’s library at 11 p.m. before the midnight drop, followed by fireworks.
