Crash involving motorcycle officer closes Loop 101 in Scottsdale

PHOENIX — A crash involving a Scottsdale Police motorcycle officer closed northbound Loop 101 on Wednesday morning.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the officer was alert and on his feet after the 10 a.m. wreck.

The Scottsdale Police Department added the officer was hospitalized with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. He was released later in the day.

The freeway reopened just before 1:30 p.m.

According to DPS, the officer was conducting a traffic stop on a car when a green Ford pickup truck drove left into the median.

The truck hit the car and the officer’s motorcycle, pinning it and the officer against the median wall.

Traffic was exiting at Chaparral Road while officers investigated the collision.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said drivers should expect delays.

There was no estimated time for reopening.
