Army base in Arizona briefly goes without power

PHOENIX – A power outage delayed the early morning workday at an Army base in Arizona on Tuesday.

The electricity went out at Fort Huachuca near the border in Sierra Vista, the base announced on social media, around 6:30 a.m.

The outage lasted more than an hour, disrupting traffic lights, school starts, daycare, medical and dental care, dining and shopping for two hours across the post.

UPDATE: Fort Huachuca schools are implementing a 2 hour delayed start pending restoration of power to the fort. Runion Dental Clinic will be closed until power is restored.

The base said while the soldiers and staff weren’t operating under normal procedures, the installation was not closed.

Initally, the base said the commissary would be closed all day, but by 8:30 a.m. said the building would open at noon.

Fort Huachuca is home to the U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and other units.

Cause of the outage was not made public.
