3 Mesa museums to offer free admission for one night

PHOENIX — Three Mesa museums are opening their doors to everyone for a few hours one night this week.

The Arizona Museum of Natural History, Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum and i.d.e.a. Museum are offering free admission from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday as part of the city’s annual Merry Museums event.

The initiative is aimed at making science, art and interactive activities available to all regardless of financial situations, according to a press release.

Visitors will save $12 on adult tickets and $7 on child tickets at the Arizona Museum of Natural History and $9 for general admission at the i.d.e.a. Museum.

Admission to the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum is always free, but the facility usually closes at 5 p.m.

Because of the popularity of the event, the museums could near visitor capacity.

If that happens, museum staff will start offering timed tickets at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. No advanced tickets will be distributed.

The three museums are located within a few blocks of each other in Mesa’s downtown area near Main Street.

There will also be food trucks, a Christmas market and ice rink on Main Street during that time as part of the city’s Merry Main Street event.
