Arizona flags to be flown at half-staff to commemorate Pearl Harbor

PHOENIX – Flags will be lowered across Arizona on Saturday in observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Gov. Doug Ducey ordered flags to be flown at half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise to sunset.

“On Saturday, Arizona joins our nation in solemn remembrance of the more than 2,400 American lives lost 78 years ago in the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor,” Ducey said in a press release.

The surprise attack by Japanese forces on the Hawaii naval base Dec. 7, 1941, prompted the United States to enter World War II.

“Nearly half of those who gave their lives at Pearl Harbor served aboard the USS Arizona — giving special meaning to this day in the hearts of all Arizonans,” Ducey said.

“It is a day that changed the trajectory of our country forever.”
