Gilbert Days Parade to roll through East Valley town this weekend

PHOENIX – If you love a parade, Gilbert is the place to be Saturday morning.

The Gilbert Days Parade will roll south on Gilbert Road through the downtown area from 8:30 a.m. to around 11:30 a.m.

The long-running annual parade, which starts at Juniper Road and ends just south of Elliot Road, will feature around 100 floats from local businesses, schools and groups along with marching bands, dance troupes and more.

Gilbert Road will be closed to traffic from Guadalupe Road to Hackamore Street from 6 a.m. until noon. In addition, Gilbert’s weekly downtown farmer’s market is taking Saturday off because of the parade.

A half-marathon and 10K run and a three-day rodeo are also part of the Gilbert Days festivities.

The runs finish alongside the parade route on Gilbert Road. The half-marathon starts at 7:30 a.m. at Higley High School, and the 10K gets underway from Nichols Park (700 N. Higley Rd.) at 9 a.m.

The rodeo is held at the John Volken Academy Ranch on Val Vista Drive at Hunt Highway. Events start at 7 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets for the rodeo, which run $18 for adults and $12 for kids ages 7-15, are available online or can be purchased at the gate. Kids 6 and under and military members and veterans are free.

Rolling road closures will be in effect along the route of the runs from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday.
