Arizona gains about 50K new active registered voters, nears 4 million mark

PHOENIX — Arizona is gaining new voters ahead of a busy 2020 election season.

The state gained more than 54,000 active registered voters between July and October, according to a quarterly report released by Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs.

The increase brought Arizona’s total of number of active registered voters to 3.87 million as of Oct. 1.

“As we approach the 2020 elections, it is crucial for everyone who is eligible to vote to register now,” Hobbs said in a press release.

Republicans still held the highest total of active registered voters in the state and its most populated county.

The GOP made up about 35% of voters throughout the state, compared to 33% for Independents and 31% for Democrats.

Maricopa County followed a similar pattern, with 35% of voters registered Republican, 34% Independent and 30% Democrat.

Democrats did have the most growth in Maricopa County during the quarter, gaining about 15,000 active registered voters. Republicans gained about 11,000 voters during the same time.

The Green Party also lost its state party recognition because it did not have two-thirds of 1% of registered voters in the state.

The only recognized parties in Arizona are now Republican, Democratic and Libertarian.
