USAO: Scottsdale man sentenced to prison for illegally possessing firearms

PHOENIX — A Scottsdale man has been sentenced to prison for illegally possessing firearms.

According to the Office of the Untied States Attorney, Timothy Peter Ray was sentenced to 27 months in prison for illegally possessing firearms in violation of a court order.

Prior to the sentencing, Ray had pleaded guilty to illegally possessing six firearms and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition.

Back in February of 2018, Ray’s ex-girlfriend obtained an order of protection against him. A Superior Court judge found that Ray was a “credible threat” to the physical safety of his ex-girlfriend, ordering Ray to not posses firearms or ammunition. In April 2018, Ray told authorities he had surrendered his firearms to his father.

But last January, FBI agents used a search warrant to search Ray’s home, finding and seizing five semi-automatic firearms, a shotgun, multiple large capacity magazines and thousands of rounds of ammunition. Ray was not allowed to posses the firearms and ammunition because of his ex-girlfriend’s order of protection.
