PHOENIX – An SRP field employee made an unexpected rescue while on his routine duty in Chandler in the early morning hours.

Marcus Arnold was driving at 1 a.m. when he arrived at one of the SRP grates which are utilized to stop debris from sneaking into the pipes

After he parked, he noticed a dog sitting alone on the bank.

Still in his car, Arnold rolled down his window to check on the pup and promptly heard another dog whimpering.

Once Alex Gutierrez, a co-worker arrived to help Arnold in the rescue, they were able to free both pooches.

They unbolted a portion of the grate and made a small lasso to raise them to safety.

After Arnold and Gutierrez gave the dogs food and water, the animals went on their way safely.

The SRP urges people to keep a safe distance from the edges of canals, stay away from automated equipment at water delivery gates, and to never jump in to rescue pets or objects.

If you need assistance, call 911.
