Report: Marine from Arizona headed to brig after being found in Texas

PHOENIX – A U.S. Marine from metro Phoenix reportedly will be held in the Camp Pendleton brig after failing to return to the California base last week and being apprehended in Texas.

Lance Cpl. Job Wallace, 20, went missing after a trip to Arizona for a three-day leave from the San Diego-area base.

He left a friend’s home in Surprise the evening of Sept. 16, but his family became worried when he didn’t report to base the next day as scheduled.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service and other law enforcement officers located him Saturday night at a rest stop in Navarro County, south of Dallas.

A Marine spokesman told the Los Angeles Times in a story published Monday night that Wallace “will be placed in confinement in the Camp Pendleton brig, pending adjudication of his case. The matter is currently under investigation and there are no charges to announce at this time.”

When Wallace was missing, his mother indicated that he loved being in the Marines and had been excited about going back to Camp Pendleton.

However, the FBI reportedly was concerned that Wallace was armed and had expressed interest in confronting cartel members and traffickers in Mexico.

On Saturday, before Wallace was located, The Young Turks released an FBI situation report obtained from the bureau’s Phoenix office.

The official who supplied the report, who was not identified, told the website he was concerned that the FBI didn’t issue a public warning about Wallace while his whereabouts were unknown.

“I wanted to warn people of a potential impending danger,” he reportedly said to explain why he leaked the document. “This man is armed, and with a specific message to hurt people, and we know it. Why we have not released that information, I will never understand.”
