Woman in stable but serious condition after car goes off South Mountain road

PHOENIX — A 22-year-old female is in stable but serious condition after her car went off the road at South Mountain Monday, authorities said.

Just after 3 p.m., Phoenix firefighters responded near the three-mile marker at South Mountain where they found a vehicle 20 feet below the roadway.

According to authorities, the female was the only person in the car.

She was conscious and alert throughout the incident.

Firefighters performed a technical rescue where they stabilized the vehicle, used ropes to descend down the embankment and successfully removed the patient from the vehicle.

She was transported to a local trauma facility for further evaluation.

There were no firefighters injured during the incident.
