Arizona Red Cross deploys to help Hurricane Dorian victims

PHOENIX — Hurricane Dorian is expected to make landfall in Florida early this week, and crews from Arizona are deploying to help.

Red Cross Southwest regional communications manager Jim Gilloon told KTAR News 92.3 FM Sunday that over 1,600 volunteers from across the country are being dispatched to help, with more than 20 from Arizona.

“Ninety percent of our work staff are volunteers and they take time out of their family lives when they get deployed,” Gilloon said.

The Greater Phoenix Chapter of the American Red Cross is sending its Mobile Feeding Truck to help distribute food, water and supplies to affected areas.

The truck left Sunday and should arrive at the area by Sept. 3.

The vehicles will stage in Alabama to figure out where they’re needed after Hurricane Dorian makes landfall.

To help victims of Hurricane Dorian, people can donate to the American Red Cross by visiting their website, texting DORIAN to 90999 to make a $10 donation or call 1-800-RED CROSS.
