Arizona AG suing big pharma family in US Supreme Court

PHOENIX — Arizona’s attorney general is suing a “big pharma” family, claiming it’s hiding billions of dollars from opioid victims.

Mark Brnovich claims eight members of the Sackler family transferred money from Purdue Pharma to their personal bank accounts.

“And we think that was done to shield money, or hide it from eventual judgments,” he said.

Brnovich believes the law allows the reversal of fraudulent transfers. He started his claim with the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Forget about going to the lower courts, forget about going to the state courts,” Brnovich said. “Our hope is that the Supreme Court will accept jurisdiction, and this case can move forward in a quick and expedited manner.”

That could result in billions of dollars more for those addicted to OxyContin painkillers, or their survivors.

He also says the lawsuit can help other states sue in behalf of painkiller addicts or their survivors.
