PHOENIX — A Phoenix man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly left his 3-year-old daughter locked in his car at a drive-in movie theater.
Police said they responded to a report of a child in a car at the West Wind Glendale 9 Drive-In near 55th Avenue and Bethany Home Road around 11 p.m.
Brian Flores, 22, said he meant to leave her in the car for 5 to 7 minutes while he went to get popcorn, but police said she was there for more than 15 minutes.
The temperature at the time was 100 degrees, and there was an excessive heat warning in place, according to court documents.
Police directed Flores to turn the car back on, and they said the child did not appear to be in distress.
The child’s mother came to the theater and took custody of the girl, according to court documents.
Flores was arrested and charged with one count of negligent child abuse. He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 12.
