PHOENIX — A nonprofit that mentors at-risk teenagers announced the purchase of a former urgent care building in downtown Phoenix this week.

New Pathways for Youth will take over the 11,000-square-foot former One Medical building at Jefferson and Ninth streets, according to a press release.

The 30-year-old nonprofit began a $1.2 million, 10-month renovation of the spot last week.

The new building will have a 100-person course room, workshop rooms, a community gathering room and an outdoor recreation space.

“This is perhaps the most important milestone in New Pathways’ history,” Christy McClendon, president and CEO, said in the release.

“We are stepping into the next chapter of our story, doing our part to change young lives, inspire new outcomes, teach new lessons, create new memories and transform our community.”

The new building is expected to help the group reach its expansion goals, which include reaching 1,500 mentors by 2024 and doubling staff.

The nonprofit’s headquarters is located at 10th and Pierce streets.
