PHOENIX — A Chandler man was sentenced to 28 years in prison Wednesday after he pleaded guilty last month to holding his girlfriend captive and repeatedly assaulting her.

John Ormond, 51, was charged with sexual assault, aggravated assault, kidnapping and sexual abuse, according to Chandler Detective Seth Tyler.

Tyler said officers went to Ormond’s residence on Jan. 8, 2018, after his girlfriend’s family member reported they had not heard from her in weeks.

Officers found the woman in the home bound and seriously injured, Tyler said. She told the officers she had been held captive since Dec. 31, 2017.

The woman told police that Ormond repeatedly assaulted her and once hit her in the head with a wooden post, knocking her unconscious for three days. When she awoke, she was tied to a bed post, she told police.

Ormond was also sentenced to lifetime probation and sex offender registration.
