Grand Avenue closed at Glendale intersection following accident

PHOENIX — An accident that sent several people to the hospital, including a two-week-old child, closed Grand Avenue at Bethany Home Road in Glendale on Monday evening, authorities said.

Glendale police said a truck collided with a car in the intersection at about 4:45 p.m.

Five children and a total of eight people were transported to local hospitals with life-threatening injuries and are in stable condition, authorities said.

The eastbound lanes reopened around 9:30 p.m., but the westbound lanes remained closed.

Investigators are on scene determining the cause of the accident and whether proper seat belts and child restraint devices were used.
