Authorities investigate white powder at Chase Field

PHOENIX – A white powder that Chase Field employees were exposed to Thursday afternoon was determined to be harmless, authorities said.

Three workers were exposed after a bag with 2-3 ounces of the substance was brought to the downtown stadium’s security, according to an email from Phoenix Fire Capt. Kenny Overton.

The employees didn’t show any symptoms, he said.

With the Arizona Diamondbacks out of town, the Perfect Game National Showcase for top national baseball prospects has been taking place at Chase Field this week.

Overton didn’t provide details about how the powder was given to the stadium’s staff.

The Phoenix Fire Department’s hazardous materials unit and the Phoenix Police Department’s bomb squad evaluated the substance and found it to be harmless.

Overton said a sample was sent to the state lab to figure out what it is.
