Tucson hits 100-degree mark for first time in 2019

PHOENIX — It took a while longer than Phoenix, but it finally hit 100 degrees in Tucson.

The National Weather Service said Tucson International Airport hit 100 degrees for the first time in 2019 at 2:37 p.m. on Sunday.

It was tied for the 13th latest occurrence for triple digits in city history and it happened more than a month later than 2018 (May 4).

Phoenix hit 100 degrees for the first time this year on April 26.

The hot weather is unsurprisingly expected to continue this week.

NWS has issued an excessive heat watch for southeast Maricopa County for Tuesday and Wednesday and has been extended through Thursday for the Phoenix metro area.
