Cool no more: Phoenix highs to near triple digits by the weekend

PHOENIX — Enjoying the unusually cool weather in Phoenix the past few weeks? Well, it’s coming to an end.

The high temperatures in the Valley will return to near normal by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Phoenix is projected to reach a high temperature of 99 degrees on Friday and hover near triple digits throughout the weekend.

The near triple-digit highs are still slightly below average for this time of year, but not like what the city saw for most of May.

Phoenix has seen 12 days of lower-than-average high temperatures since the recorded high temperature was 100 degrees on May 15.

Only once has Phoenix’s high temperature eclipsed 90 degrees since, including four days where the high temperature was in the 70s.

Tuesday’s high temperature is expected to be 86 degrees, almost 15 degrees below average.

Phoenix matched its lowest recorded Memorial Day high temperature in state history on Monday with a high almost 20 degrees below normal for the holiday.

The National Weather Service said Monday’s high temperature hit 79 degrees at 4 p.m., which matched the record low high temperature that was set in 1988.
