Arizona rents mostly stay under the national average in April

PHOENIX — Despite increasing rent averages nationwide and locally, Arizona rents mostly remained under the national average in April.

The national rent average for April was up 3% from last year at $1,436, with several Arizona cities falling well below the average, according to Rent Cafe.

Scottsdale, with an average rent of $1,476, was the lone exception.

Tempe was the next closest to the mean at $1,344.

Chandler ($1,294) and Gilbert ($1,250) were less expensive than Tempe but not as cheap as Peoria ($1,156) and Glendale ($962).

Average rent in Phoenix was $1,046. The cheapest rent in Arizona came in Tucson at $862.

All eight Arizona cities included in the data saw healthy spikes in rent from a year ago.

Scottsdale, at $114, saw the heftiest rent increase while Tucson, at $52, saw the least amount of rent increase.
