Light rain moves through Phoenix area, dampening morning commute

PHOENIX — Residents in metro Phoenix woke up to a rarely seen sight on Tuesday: Rain. In the Valley. In May.

Even though it wasn’t a torrential downpour — and the rain that did fall wasn’t expected to stick around long — it was enough to dampen many drivers’ morning commutes.

The National Weather Service said 0.01 inches, one-hundredth of an inch, fell at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport by 7 a.m.

Shower activity is continuing to move through the #Phoenix metro, with the heaviest showers over the north & NW Valley. The rain was expected to clear up by the afternoon.

But the Valley also experienced colder than normal temperatures on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service said the day’s high was expected to be in the lower 80s, about 10 degrees below normal. The morning’s low was 63 degrees, four degrees lower than normal.

Phoenix was expected to see cooler than normal temperatures, with small chances of rain throughout the rest of the week.
