West Valley student evaluated after chemistry lab spill

PHOENIX — A student at a West Valley preparatory academy was evaluated by first responders Monday after a spill occurred in the chemistry lab on campus.

No students were injured after the incident at Odyssey Preparatory Academy near Verrado Way and Yuma Road in Buckeye, spokeswoman Stephanie Crawford said in an email.

One high school student was evaluated by the Buckeye Fire Department.

Crawford said the spill happened during a supervised chemistry experiment. A hazardous material test of the room came back negative.

Authorities were called as a precaution to “ensure that the situation was handled appropriately.”

The chemistry lab has been temporarily closed. All the classes in that building have been moved to other locations on campus.
