Chandler Unified tops 2019 list of Arizona’s best school districts

PHOENIX – The Chandler Unified School District was named the best district in Arizona by a website that specializes in public records and background checks.

Deer Valley Unified in Phoenix was No. 2 and Gilbert Unified was ranked third in BackgroundCheck.org’s 2019 list of the state’s best districts, which was released last week.

The website compiled rankings for each state based on a variety of metrics, including student-to-teacher ratio, standardized test scores, graduation rate and school funding.

Chandler Unified was cited for a 94% graduation rate and academic proficiency in reading and math.

Deer Valley’s strongest points were college prep and the sports scene.

The highlights for Gilbert Unified included a 93% graduation rate and health/safety.

All but two of the state’s top 10 were located in Maricopa County.

Scottsdale Unified and Tucson’s Catalina Foothills Unified rounded out the top five.

Mesa Unified, Vail Unified, Peoria Unified, Higley Unified and Paradise Valley Unified completed the top 10.
