PHOENIX — The eastbound Interstate 10 on-ramp at State Route 87 is set to close for seven weeks beginning Wednesday as Arizona Department of Transportation crews work on widening the interstate north of Picacho Peak.

According to ADOT, the on-ramp closure is part of the completion of the project to widen the I-10.

The on-ramp is to open in mid-June and is expected to connect the new eastbound lanes being added. Once those lanes open, the I-10 will extend to a six-lane freeway from milepost 209 to 213.

To avoid any delays during the closure, motorists can reach eastbound I-10 by taking westbound I-10 to Sunshine Boulevard.

In addition to the work on the on-ramp, ADOT crews will also be installing a 10-mile dust detection zone are from Eloy to Picacho Peak.

Crews will install foundations for electronic message boards as well as 10 miles of fiber optic cable that will connect other equipment in the area.

Work on the projects is expected to be completed by this fall, with the installation of additional lanes from Casa Grande to Tucson expected to be completed by late summer.
