West Valley officer in stable condition after car accident

PHOENIX — A West Valley police officer is in stable condition after breaking several bones in a traffic accident Wednesday.

Donna Rossi with the Buckeye Police Department said the motorcycle officer was airlifted to a Phoenix hospital after the accident at the intersection of Verrado Way and Canyon Drive, about 2 miles north of Interstate 10.

The officer, identified only as a 35-year-old male who has been on the force 9½ years, had surgery on his broken leg at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center, but was still seeking care for additional broken bones and contusions.

Nobody else was injured in crash, which involved the officer’s motorcycle and an Jeep SUV.

The officer was responding to a medical emergency call at an elementary school when the accident occurred just before 1 p.m. Police didn’t provide details about the nature of that call.

“The Buckeye Police Department appreciates the outpouring of support and concern and asks that you to keep this officer and his family in your thoughts,” spokeswoman Donna Rossi said in an email.

The accident is being investigated by the Goodyear Police Department.
