PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation anticipates heavy delays this weekend when a 2-mile stretch of eastbound Interstate 10 in west Phoenix is closed for construction.

The highway will be shut down from 67th to 51st avenues between 9 p.m. Friday and 8 p.m. Saturday, the agency said.

Additionally, the eastbound I-10 on-ramps at 91st, 83rd, 79th and 75th avenues will be closed to reduce the potential backup.

Eastbound traffic will be detoured onto McDowell Road or Van Buren Street in the area.

ADOT suggested using Loop 101 west of I-17 or other surface streets to avoid the backups.

The closure will be lifted in time for traffic returning from Saturday night’s Garth Brooks concert at State Farm Stadium.

While the road is closed, crews will remove a 90-foot-long temporary support beam that was used during construction of an HOV bridge for the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway.

At another section of the 22-mile project, Pecos Road will be closed between 40th and 32nd streets in Ahwatukee from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Pecos will also be limited to westbound traffic between 32nd and 24th streets during that time.

The northeast Valley will also see delays on westbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway. It will be closed between Pima Road/Princess Drive and Scottsdale Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for work on a freeway widening project.

Another inconvenience will occur in Chandler, where the HOV ramp from westbound Loop 202 to northbound Loop 101 will be closed for re-striping from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

ADOT provides real-time highway conditions online, on Twitter or over the phone at 511.

Drivers can also get alerts and alternate route notifications via ADOT’s mobile app.
