Former UA basketball coach Lute Olson in good condition after stroke

PHOENIX — Former University of Arizona basketball coach Lute Olson was hospitalized after experiencing a minor stroke over the weekend.

Banner Health said Monday that Olson was hospitalized Saturday and is in good condition.

“He is expected to make a full recovery but will likely need some rehabilitation therapy after his discharge from the hospital,” Dr. David Labiner, chairman of the UA Department of Neurology, said in a statement.

According to the statement, Olson’s family has asked for privacy and no further information will be released.

Olson was the Wildcats’ head coach for 25 years, and he was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.

He led the Wildcats to four NCAA Final Fours, winning the 1997 national championship.

He retired from coaching in 2008.
