Driver arrested after deadly rollover crash in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A man has been arrested after a deadly rollover crash on the southbound I-17 to westbound I-10 interchange early Sunday morning.

It was said to be a single-car collision with three people involved in the crash, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Officials say the car veered off of the roadway and struck a palm tree, leaving 21-year-old Marcellos Matthews dead and another passenger injured.

The driver and brother of Marcellos, 23-year-old Marquese Matthews, was booked into jail for first-degree murder, aggravated assault and endangerment.

Investigators believe alcohol or drug impairment was a factor in the crash.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said the ramp was temporarily closed but has since reopened.
