Glendale high school student seriously injured after being hit by car

PHOENIX — A high school student in a Phoenix suburb suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle early Tuesday.

Sgt. John Roth with the Glendale Police Department said the Apollo High School student was struck in the intersection of 47th and Northern avenues, near the school, around 7:30 a.m.

Roth said in an email that she was crossing Northern Avenue within the crosswalk when she was hit. She is currently in stable condition, he added.

This morning’s accident was involving a student on their way to school. The student is at the hospital receiving medical treatment and their parents have been notified. The intersection will remain closed for most of the morning as investigators are on scene

The driver remained on scene after the accident.

In an afternoon email update, Roth said the pedestrian was obscured by other traffic before the accident, and the driver had a green light.

No criminal charges or traffic violations were pending, Roth said.

The intersection of 47th and Northern avenues was closed in all directions for several hours but reopened just after 11 a.m.
