Arizona county jail featured in cable documentary series

PHOENIX — An Arizona jail will be the focus of a new season of a documentary series that follows average citizens who willingly go undercover.

Cable network A&E’s “60 Days In” sent seven volunteers to pose as inmates at Pinal County Adult Detention Center in Florence, Arizona, to help the department uncover problems at the facilities.

In a Facebook post, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department said, “We learned so much and made some changes because of the show.”

The latest season premiered Thursday night.

“Our missions were to find out what drugs were in our facility, what the gang issues were in our facility and overall facility operations,” Sheriff Mark Lamb told “Good Morning America” in the hours leading up to Thursday night’s premiere of the fifth season.

Previously featured jails included Clark County, Indiana, and Fulton County Jail in Atlanta.

“This jail was one of the toughest we’ve ever been in because of the gang presence,” the show’s executive producer, Mark Henry, said this week in an interview with TV Insider.

The series, in its fifth season, was scheduled to run weekly at 10 p.m. Arizona time. The premiere episode, “New Sheriff in Town,” was to be rerun Tuesday at 10 p.m.
