Arizona Snowbowl expecting big crowd to end holiday season

PHOENIX – The wintry weather that has swept up and down Arizona recently is drawing no complaints from the operators of ski resort Snowbowl.

“Conditions are fantastic,” Rob Linde, assistant general manager of the Flagstaff-area snow sports site, told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Arizona’s Morning News on Friday. “I think we’re going to have quite a few people join us (this weekend).”

About 26 inches of snow have piled up at the site over the past seven days, according to the resort website and 69 inches on the season, which began Nov. 16.

A foot of snow dropped on Snowbowl overnight during a single storm at the end of opening month.

There could be 10 more inches on the ground Sunday.

“We’re in really good shape on the mountain,” Linde said, adding all eight lifts were open and 40 of the 48 trails were available for use for the weekend.

The Christmas break has, as usual, been good for business.

“We’ve had some big days this holiday season,” Linde said. “A large majority of of our business comes this time of year. This is really the heart of the season.”

Snowbowl’s projected closing date was April 28. The 81-year-old resort was open 122 days last year and expected to at least match that this season.
