PHOENIX — A toddler suffered serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle at a Phoenix school on Monday.

Sgt. Mercedes Fortune with the Phoenix Police Department said a 3-year-old boy was hit by the bumper of a vehicle in the area of 40th Street and Deer Valley Drive.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, she added. Impairment did not appear to be a factor.

The boy was transported to Phoenix Children’s Hospital in serious but stable condition, Phoenix Fire Capt. Rob McDade said.

Fortune did not identify which school was involved. The school in the area was Explorer Middle School.

The collision occurred around 9 a.m.

The investigation was ongoing.
