45 dogs and cats needing medical attention seized from Phoenix shelter

PHOENIX – Authorities seized 45 cats and dogs in need of medical treatment from a Phoenix shelter after a welfare check Wednesday.
The animals – 23 dogs and 22 cats – taken from the Az Dog Adoptions facility on 19th Avenue south of Interstate 10 suffered from a variety of ailments.
They are now being treated by the Arizona Humane Society, which said the medical conditions included dental disease, suspected mange and ringworm for the dogs and upper respiratory infections and ocular discharge for the cats.
The animals will remain under the care of the Humane Society’s medical team until further notice.

ABC15 reported that Phoenix police and the Humane Society conducted the welfare check around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday and determined that many of the cats and dogs weren’t being properly cared for.
A note on the AZ Dog Adoptions website Thursday said its phone lines were down, and the link to the shelter’s Facebook page pulled up an error message that said the content wasn’t available.
AZ Dog Adoptions did not respond to a request for comment submitted through its website.
